HEAT PUMP REBATES FOr Maine Businesses And Homeowners
Receive up to $8000 in Rebates plus A $2000 federal tax credit

This will make the transition from fossil fuel-dependent heating and cooling to renewable energy-powered heat pumps affordable.

Residential Rebates For Heat Pumps In Maine
Efficiency Maine offers rebates based on income for homeowners in the Portland area.
ANY INCOME REBATES
You can receive up to 40% of the project cost up to a maximum lifetime rebate limit of $4,000 when you transition to an electric, zero-emission heat pump.
To be eligible for any of the Efficiency Maine Rebates:
- You must be the owner of the home which is located in Maine.
The heat pump must heat the space throughout the entire heating season. - Only single-zone heat pumps with one indoor unit each (including ducted indoor units) qualify.
- A 25C Federal tax credit-eligible heat pump must be installed.
- Heat pumps must cover 80% of the total required capacity of the dwelling at the designated temperature.
- Heat pump(s), combined with supplemental heat, must be sized to meet at least 100% of home’s peak heating load.
- Your old primary fossil-fueled space heating system must be removed, connected only to a generator, disabled (lock power in the off position), thermostats disconnected, or disconnected from the panel - basically, put out of commission.
MODERATE INCOME
Heat Pump REBATES
You can receive a rebate for up to 60% of the project cost to a maximum lifetime limit of $6000.
Efficiency Maine offers rebates to homeowners who meet the requirements above and
- Have an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) up to $70,000 for individual tax filers, or $100,000 for joint filers

Maine's LOW INCOME Heat Pump REBATES
You can receive a rebate for up to a maximum lifetime limit of $8000.
Maine's Housing Authority provides low-income homeowners with subsidies and rebates for eco-friendly heat pump installations.
To be eligible for a low income heat pump rebate you must meet the requirements for any income and
- Must receive LIHEAP, MaineCare, SNAP, and/or TANF.
Commercial Heat Pump Rebates In maine
Efficiency Maine offers a variety of commercial incentives to help businesses install or retrofit their existing HVAC system with a zero emission, high-efficiency heat pump system. They have rebates for every situation and every system. We can help you determine how much you can receive and help you with the application process.
STANDARD COMMERCIAL REBATES
Single-zone heat pumps with an HSPF of at least 12.0 are eligible for a
$500 rebate per unit.
Multi-zone heat pumps with HSPF values of 10.0 or higher are eligible for a
- $750 rebate per 2-zone unit,
- $1,000 rebate per 3 zone unit, and a
- $1,250 rebate per 4 or more zone units.
SMALL BUSINESS INITIATIVE
Single-zone heat pumps are eligible for a $1600 rebate. Up to three rebates may be permitted per business location.
To be eligible for the SBI Rebates:
- You must be the owner of the business located in Maine (you do not need to own the building).
- You must upgrade primary heating and cooling to high-performance, zero-emission heat pumps
- Utility bill must show SGS or general service rate class
- MGS under the utility bill must show SGS sentence
- Medium-class businesses with an average monthly demand up to 50kW may be eligible for additional initiatives, including those who receive CMP
- Medium General Service and Versant Rate Code M-2
**Warehouses, large assembly, grow facilities, multi-family buildings, and facilities that heat with natural gas are not eligible.
